Earlier this year, in February and March, we worked with FAIR-SPACE on a two-part hybrid event that was held at a number of locations, including Imperial College London, Edinburgh University, Media City, Manchester, and University of Surrey.

What, we’ve already reached the halfway point in 2022….we know, where did the time go?
This year, the Cosmonauts team have been busy bees at work and we want to recap on some partnered events the team delivered this year starting with our first event of the year, a 2 part hybrid event covering multiple locations across the UK in partnership with FAIR-SPACE.
The brief:
Cosmonauts are professionals at putting the right people in the same space, for our clients, but that doesn’t mean it stops at the Cosmonauts front door. We also love to network!
After a hugely successful SPACEtalks in October 2021, SpaceSpecialists and Cosmonauts fused to form a partnership catering specifically to the space industry. Having formed these strong relationships, and having seen the success of SPACEtalks, the FAIR-SPACE team contacted us in need of help delivering two hybrid events to showcase the work of the institution over the past 5 years. And that we did!
What we delivered:
Up first was The FAIR-SPACE Robotics Summit, hosted by the Future AI & Robotics in Space (FAIR-SPACE) Hub, UK Space Agency (UKSA), Satellite Applications Catapult, and National Robotics Network (NRN), with experts from the robotics and space industry coming together with researchers and government professionals to explore transformative possibilities and chart a roadmap for the future. This took place on 16th February in Media City, Manchester.
This was followed swiftly, only one month later, on the 16th March by the FAIR-SPACE Showcase event highlighting the culmination of a five-year programme of research modelled on challenges presented by the harshest of environments and illustrate transformative opportunity for development of the near-Earth orbit infrastructure that is increasingly underpinning life on Earth. This event hosted a remote live demonstration of haptic technology and robotics being controlled between two locations, Edinburgh and London, demonstrating the technologies immense capabilities. The Cosmonauts team created a hybrid space that allowed a live stream function between three locations: Edinburgh University, Surrey University and Imperial College London.

A Little Background on FAIR-SPACE
The Future AI and Robotics for Space (FAIR-SPACE) Hub is a UK national centre of research excellence in space robotics and AI. The Hub was launched in November 2017, as part of the government’s £84m R&D funding on “robotics and AI for extreme environments” through the Industry Strategic Challenge Fund (ISCF). In its initial 3-year programme, the Hub has secured a £7.95m research grant from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the UK Space Agency (UKSA), boosted by a further £7.5m match fund from the industrial sector and a £15m business development fund.
Led by the University of Surrey with over 30 international partners, the FAIR-SPACE Hub consortium offers a unique combination of expertise and capabilities to address key challenges in space robotics and autonomous systems, as well as to influence and engage with the wider community of academia, industry, government and the public.
