When working with an early-stage startup, you need to be prepared for whatever challenge comes your way. So when CEO of Legal Connection, Guy Stern contacted us to say he wanted to raise his seed round on crowdfunding platform, Crowdcube and wanted us to produce a video, we had no choice but to rise to the challenge.
Luckily we have cameras, microphones, lights and skills in-house to shoot high quality video. And we have a beautiful office that makes for a great backdrop. We booked Guy in for a shoot. He felt that he would do a great job speaking unscripted. He is after all, passionate about the product, a great storyteller and no stranger to public speaking. Off camera, Guy knew exactly what he wanted to say and did a great job of saying it. But when the lights were on and the camera was rolling, Guy was, possibly for the first time, lost for words. The first shoot was a disaster and we didn’t get any usable footage. Still it was a great first step on the journey to a great video.
We sent Guy home with a task: Write a complete script and learn that script word for word. Guy reluctantly accepted his homework and returned to our offices the following week with the script in Google Docs and mostly memorised. Still it took us about 2 hours to record 4 minutes of perfect footage. As he was walking out the door we realised that the camera autofocus was slightly miscalibrated and we landed up needing to reshoot one last time. Lessons you’ll only learn once.
Post production and animation are loads of fun but took way longer than expected. Animated videos truly are a labour of love and we worked closely with the UX / UI designer Lucian Blankevoorts of Legal Connection to paint a picture which complimented the vibrant and energetic style needed for the snappy video. The result speaks for itself.
The video is live on Crowdcube and already helping to attract investment. You can take a look here: https://www.crowdcube.com/legalconnection. We’re thrilled with how it turned out.
Whether you want to produce a product video, a crowdfunding campaign or simply wanting to tell a story, Cosmonauts has the tools, tech and talent to help you bring that vision to life.
