🔊 Now, Join us as we unpack the most valuable insights and memorable moments from FLW UK 6.0’s action-packed three days!

Day 1 – Private Practice Day

Benjamin Franklin apparently said the only things that are truly certain are Death and Taxes… today we added “Change” to that list of certainties for this afternoon’s Future Lawyer Week panel looking at transformation within law firms.

In this panel Adam Levin, Partner and Co-Head London Corporate Practice at Dechert LLP mentioned: Don’t put all your eggs in one basket! You may fail, or you may innovate, but at the end of the day, you have to choose what you’re actually aiming for. Aiming high and working on voluminous projects can cause the gem that was once there to get lost in the process. So, set clear goals and hold on to your gems folks 💎!

During a panel discussion titled “Getting Shit Done,” Joe Cohen, the Head of Innovation at Dentons, made a fantastic point. He emphasised the importance of streamlining and reducing purchase cycle times. His advice? “Maximise what you already have!” Instead of enduring the hassle of procurement processes, consider tapping into your existing providers. Procurement can be a real headache – it’s time-consuming, can cause delays in your projects, and it can be costly. So, why not make the most of what you already have at your disposal? Joe’s insights are a valuable reminder that sometimes the simplest solutions are the best ones 💁.

⭐ By the way, did you happen to discover the shiny golden star beneath your chair at the most entertaining fireside chat held at FLW UK 6.0? If yes, lucky you! Caroline Hill, Editor-in-Chief at Legal IT Insider, and Sarah Lloyd-Hughes, Founder & CEO of the Ginger Leadership Communication, presented a fireside chat on ‘The Gender ‘Say’ Gap to  Why (and how) women need to speak up.’ And let’s just say it was a BLAST, we’ve never seen FLW UK attendees this entertained!

Day 2 – In-House Day

Deborah Smith’s dedication to pro bono work was a standout takeaway from In-House Day! She posed some thought-provoking questions such as, how can technology be leveraged to scale pro bono? Can data entry be automated? Can chatbots handle common questions to relieve legal clinic burdens, allowing volunteers to focus on more technical work? Let’s bring our expertise online and make it accessible to those who need it!

Two calls to action from the amazing Deborah Smith:

1) To legal tech –  think about your moral obligation to give back to the community and how your products can assist.

2) To the lawyers – we need you to give your time and expertise to digitalise and democracies pro bono.

Get in touch with Deborah Smith to discuss how you can disrupt pro bono! She along with Sharon Blackman OBE and Radhika Rani run a great initiative with the In House Pro Bono Group and would love to hear from you!

One of the main questions discussed during the ‘Is This the Way to Amarillo’ panel was ‘How is your relationship with the business?’. And Samantha Groffman said it can be a love/hate relationship where sometimes it’s an enabler and sometimes a blocker. Ofei Kwafo-Akoto recommends running a survey with the business to find out what they think and be clear on your purpose. Jenny Luckham mentions how important it is to build and keep close relationships with senior management as that’s helped to showcase their value. Nicola Phillips adds that covid actually helped to highlight to the business how legal can offer a way forward when things aren’t going to plan.

Day 3 – Litigation Day

Day 3 of FLW UK began on a great note, Opus 2 was back as a networking sponsor for the day! Did you get a chance to swing by their exhibition booth? If not, you definitely missed out on an unforgettable experience!

Also, did you happen to find out how you can be a superhuman lawyer 🦸? One simple answer is to be “more human but ideally with a few cool gizmos to help out.” In a fantastic standalone session, Paul Mcquillan, Managing Director at CRMCS, delved into the concept of artificial intelligence (or other known technology) in the legal system!

Although FLW UK 6.0 is over, we’re sure that we’ll be back in no time! To stay up to date with future editions, make sure you pre register today!

But if 2024 sounds too far away, we have a whole host for Legal Tech and Innovation conferences set for 2023! Check out our other FLW conferences, or what about a Legal Innovator show! Read more about our events on our website!
