This conference is a unique hub for industry leaders in IP to connect, learn, and share with other professionals from across multiple sectors – all centred around intellectual property. The first day of the show hosts a Mathys & Squire Consulting IP Commercialisation Workshop, and the action-packed conference follows on the second day.

Our conference content takes on the latest in IP, from AI to Unitary Patents; whether you’re an IP pro or just looking to get your foot in the door, this is the place to be! Keep reading to find out how this conference is the key to the world of intellectual property.

Open Innovation Projects

Open innovation projects are taking off as people look to improve the world with increasingly-accessible technologies. Patents are key in employing new ideas to fulfil their best potential in benefiting the owner. In the world of open innovation, IP rights are vital in enabling the selling and licensing of the IP rights to another organisation – but what does that mean for companies?

Our panel, ‘Stepping It Up’, takes a look at if – and how – companies need to reevaluate their IP strategies in the face of increasing open innovation. Hear from Nutribio CEO Donal O’Sullivan, Novartis’ Director of Technology Innovation Ian Pepper, the Senior Counsel, Global Transactions Team – European Lead (M&A), Breffni Sheridan, at Canada Life Group, and other leaders spearheading the future of IP.

Outsourcing Your IP Management

In recent years, companies looking to save money, be more efficient, and increase flexibility have turned to outsourcing. However, this can also come along with a string of worries and risks.

From hackers to trade secrets to internal risks, outsourcing comes with a wide array of possible downsides. But with due diligence and the right framework, this path of IP management can actually prove to be a beneficial venture. Gain valuable insight into this pressing question during the panel ‘Outsource Your IP,’ where we host Binarii Labs CEO Aidan Finn, Zyte’s Chief Legal & People Officer, Sanaea Daruwalla, and Fujitsu Ireland’s Head of Legal & Commercial, Barry Connolly

Our roundtables also hone in on feeling secure in your IP management, with one session taking a look at protecting trade secrets in a time of remote work and another diving into brand protection..

Unitary Patents

The unitary patent system is set to be in effect from the 1st of June, 2023. This brings a new type of patent that will provide uniform protection across all participating countries, reducing costs and administrative burdens for applicants. This is an exciting take on patent systems that has been in the works for over a decade, and could provide insight into patent court systems around the world.

This much-awaited system will include 17 European Member States that have already enhanced cooperation in getting the UP into place; these countries are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden.

On our panel, ‘Get Set – Go’, we’ll take a look at the future of IP with the Unified Patent Court (UPC) System. And, specifically, the challenges Irish businesses face and the impact they may feel being outside the UPC system. Hear from industry leaders Naoise Gaffney, VP, Head of Intellectual Property at GH Research, Marie Walsh, Patent Director at HGF, and Triona Walshe, Senior Intellectual Property Attorney at James Hardie Technology

Whether you’re a Head of IP or just looking to expand your knowledge, the Dublin IP and R&D Summit offers exclusive insight from the revolutionaries shaping the future of this vital aspect of our global industries. We aim to take on the pressing and hottest issues facing the ever-evolving world of IP; with experienced speakers delivering panels, standalone sessions, product demonstrations, and even hosting roundtables – which allow you to get to know them and their ideas directly – this event is vital to anyone looking to improve their IP stake, knowledge, and connections.
