Whoop Whoop! You must have already heard – we’re heading to Africa for the first time ever! Future Lawyer Week Africa will be held in Uganda from the 21st to the 23rd of February, in collaboration with The Innovation Village Kampala. The first day will feature a dinner and a tour of the Innovation Village, followed by a ‘Access to Justice’ Hackathon on day two and a complete legal tech conference on day three.


This one-of-a-kind event focuses on legal tech innovation and is intended to allow not just the union of diverse areas of legal practice, but also dialogue and network-building. We’re providing cutting-edge technology to in-house departments, private practices, and everyone in between!

Helen Mukasa


Legal Lead of The Innovation Village


We’re in good company! Future Lawyer Week Africa has selected some of the most successful industry leading experts. We are delighted to announce our very first speaker… Helen Mukasa, The Innovation Village’s Legal Lead! Hellen will be kicking off Future Lawyer Week Africa with the chair’s opening remarks welcoming us all and setting the tone for an exciting day! She’ll also be joining one of our stellar panels later in the day, so keep reading to find out more!


Hellen is a competent and skilled lawyer, innovator, and social entrepreneur with over 10 years of practice in Uganda. She developed disruptive ideas into effective, sustainable innovations to improve the justice journey for our community of entrepreneurs. Hellen led teams through challenging periods of change whilst maintaining focus on delivery, both in terms of our mission, commitments and quality. She is passionate about innovations of Law and social inclusion of youth and women.💃

Brian Kalule


The brilliant Brian Kalule, Partner at Bowmans Uganda, will be taking the stage to discuss a panel entitled ‘Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks’ at FLW alongside five other exceptional panellists.🐶👀 


As a partner in AF Mpanga Advocates (Bowmans Uganda) and sector Partner for Technology Media and Telecoms (TMT) and Intellectual Property, Brian handles the firm’s TMT legal and regulatory aspects for both local and international clients. He advises some of the world’s leading companies in technology. He is also company secretary for the Uganda Fintech Service Providers Association and the Chairperson of the Legal Committee of the Uganda Bankers Association

Alice Blazevic


Alice Blazevic Namuli, Partner –  Head of Tech and Innovations at Katende


Let us introduce you to the amazing Alice Blazevic Namuli, Partner –  Head of Tech and Innovations at Katende, who will be speaking on a riveting panel titled ‘Change is the only constant’ at FLW Africa! Continue reading to learn about her achievements and successes in her legal profession.


Alice is an award winning lawyer (most notable for Top 5 Most Influential Women in LegalTech by the International Legal Tech Association 2020, Top and Top 5 Cybersecurity Professional Global Influencer by IFSEC Global 2021, Legal Innovation Award of the Year 2020 by Uganda Law Society), innovator, international speaker and author.


Alice has over 18 years’ experience. Alice specialises in Technology and the law with a keen interest in Artificial Intelligence , Blockchain, Crypto currencies, Fintechs , Cyberlaw and Data Protection. 


Alice represents some of the largest Fintechs and Blockchain Technology based businesses which are reshaping the mode of doing business in Africa.

Rian Hancock 


CEO of Africa NewLaw


We are thrilled to have Rian Hancock on our panel, ‘United we stand, divided we fall,’ along with six other industry leaders. It’s shaping up to be an interesting discussion! 


Rian is a multidisciplinary specialist in Enterprise Legal Management (“ELM”) and ELM technology with a passion for innovation. Rian has extensive legal experience, an MBA from the  Gordon Institute of Business Science and extensive consulting experience in leading ELM consulting, with Deloitte and Integreon.


Rian started Africa NewLaw to bridge the gap between management consulting and the implementation of fit for purpose African technology solutions to deliver enterprise-wide legal compliance and contracting services that enable and unlock previously hidden value for client’s


Rushongoza Begumya


Last but not least, we would like to announce that Rushongoza Begumya, Associate at TASLAF Advocates, will be attending the event to share as well as deliver his sublime expertise on a panel entitled ‘Just(ice) a click away’. Read on to find out about the panels we have organised for FLW Africa! 


Rushongoza Begumya is a lawyer. Rushongoza read law at Makerere University, graduating in the Top 10 of his class. He enrolled to study the Ugandan bar, graduating with first class honours. 


Rushongoza is an Associate at TASLAF Advocates, a corporate commercial law firm. His practice focuses on commercial advisory, transaction support, dispute resolution and pro bono support to SMEs and Startups. He also works to enable innovation, enhance the entrepreneurial ecosystem and create a Twende world.
